Did you know that the shape of a trampoline affects:
-
The bounce quality, jumping room and overall performance of a trampoline.
-
The amount of backyard space needed.
-
The overall cost of the trampoline.
This makes it essential that you choose your trampoline shape wisely.
At Springfree Trampoline, we sell three trampoline shapes, two of them being round and oval trampolines – the subject of today’s blog.
If you’re debating which shape to go with, read this one closely – some subtle (but important) differences just might sway you toward your ideal trampoline shape!

How Do Springfree’s Round Trampolines Compare to Its Oval Trampolines?
Let’s walk through the differences between Springfree’s round and oval trampolines in the following categories:
-
Intended use
-
Available space
-
Safety features
-
Bounce quality
-
Durability
-
Cost
These six factors were listed in our blog – What Shape Trampoline Is Best? | Expert Insights Revealed. Read through it if you’d like to learn more about these factors and how a trampoline’s shape affects them.
-
Intended Use
“Intended use” means which type of jumper is best suited for the trampoline based on its shape.
Round
-
Best shape for younger jumpers or beginners looking to jump for fun.
Note: Big round trampolines, like the Springfree 13 ft Jumbo Round, can be comfortably used by the whole family for the long haul. The smaller Springfree models, like the 6 ft Mini Round and 8 ft Compact Round, are best for younger jumpers.
-
The small round trampolines (Mini and Compact) by Springfree have a 175-pound weight capacity, which might rule them out for adults/kids.
Oval
-
Still a beginner-friendly shape, but is also built for young (and older) jumpers who have athletic ambitions with a trampoline.
-
Springfree Compact Oval is for smaller jumpers (175-pound weight capacity), while the other three oval-shaped Springfree models can fit all ages (220-pound weight capacity).
-
If you want the best Springfree Trampoline for gymnastics or training, the Springfree Jumbo Oval offers a massive 200 square feet of jumping space.
-
Available Space
Available space means the amount of space recommended to make for your trampoline.
Although there’s no law that says you must meet a trampoline’s space requirements, it’s important to follow them so your jumpers stay safe and away from surrounding obstacles (power lines, fencing, etc.).
For all Springfree Trampolines, we recommend accounting for 5 ft of clearance space when planning for your trampoline:
Round
-
Good for small urban yards that don’t have room for a large or wide trampoline.
-
Springfree’s round trampolines will take up less room than the oval ones.
Oval
-
Oval trampolines have a unique shape, meaning they might be more difficult than a round trampoline to fit into your backyard. It’s likely best for yards that are longer than wide.
-
If buying a Springfree oval trampoline (especially the Jumbo Oval), measure your yard beforehand to ensure you have a place for it.
-
Safety Features
All Springfree’s come with the same trampoline safety features.
The springless design (mat rods instead of springs), flexible net, “hidden” frame, no hard edges on the mat and use of enclosure rods instead of poles apply to both the round and oval trampolines.
While all Springfree’s come with the same features, the shape can affect how safe the jumping experience is.
Round
-
Round trampolines are considered safer than other shapes because they naturally draw jumpers to the center of the mat – the safest spot on a trampoline.
Oval
-
Oval trampolines don’t provide you with that same drawing-to-the-center effect. There is more variability when bouncing on an oval trampoline.
-
Depending on the jumper, this could make little-to-no difference in terms of safety. If you follow basic jumping rules, you will be set up for safety regardless of which trampoline shape you’re on.
-
Bounce Quality
The bouncing experience on a Springfree oval vs. round trampoline might be the biggest difference between the two shapes.
We’ll explain below!
Round
-
Round trampolines have one sweet spot – a position on the trampoline where you can achieve a high bounce. This is the lowest number of sweet spots among the Springfree trampoline shapes.
-
Since round-shaped trampolines have a more centralized bounce, they won’t offer the same runway to do flips and tricks as oval trampolines.
-
If you decide to have multiple jumpers on the trampoline (we recommend one at a time), a round trampoline might not be the best shape for 2+ jumpers.
Oval
-
Springfree oval trampolines have two sweet spots at each end for a total of four sweet spots.
-
Oval-shaped trampolines have a surface that’s better for athletics and trampoline workouts due to their elongated shape.
-
If you’re allowing multiple jumpers, a big oval trampoline would likely be a better fit than a round model.
-
Durability
Just like the safety features, all Springfree Trampolines come with the same durability features – which help protect against weather damage and years of jumping.
This is why all Springfree Trampolines – from the Mini Round to the Jumbo Oval – come with a 10-year warranty on all components.
There is, however, an important caveat on this subject when it comes to shape.
Round
-
While Springfree’s round trampolines are just as durable component-wise as the oval-shaped models, the 6 ft and 8 ft trampolines may not last as long for growing jumpers.
The Springfree 6 ft Mini Round Trampoline:
-
With 175-pound weight capacities, there’s a chance your children might outgrow the two small Springfree round trampolines as they get into their teenage years.
-
Think of Springfree like a 10+ year investment – you’re not just buying for now; you’re buying for the future.
-
If you desire a round trampoline for the future, the Springfree Jumbo Round Trampoline would be your best choice. It comes with 132 square feet of jumping space – more than enough to accommodate growing children and adults.
Oval
-
The Compact Oval Trampoline has similar caveats to the small round models – if you have growing children and want the trampoline to last 10+ years, consider buying bigger first.
-
The three other Springfree oval trampolines – Medium, Large and Jumbo – all have a higher weight capacity and enough room for your children to reasonably jump throughout childhood.
-
Cost
Cost is a major factor for most trampoline seekers, and pricing is another area where round and oval Springfree Trampolines differ.
Round
-
Springfree’s round trampolines are less expensive than the oval-shaped models (see the prices in the Springfree’s Round vs. Oval Trampolines section at the beginning of this blog).
-
The Springfree Jumbo Round Trampoline bundle at Costco is the best deal you’ll get on a Springfree. It includes a hoop, ladder and professional installation for less money than a Medium Round Trampoline (which is 3 ft smaller) on Springfree’s website.
Oval
-
Springfree’s oval trampolines are more expensive than the round models due to the bigger sizes offered in oval shapes, and the unique qualities you get with an oval-shaped trampoline.
